If you are taking an internship with Professor Foote, the following additional details are important for you and supervisor at the internship location to know. (1) You must be enrolled for RTF 495 while you are undertaking the internship. In special circumstances, you may qualify to receive an incomplete grade while you complete internship requirements during vacation periods or over more than one semester. (2) Professor Foote recommends two internship experiences for 6 hours total credit toward graduation since the 2001-2002 academic year. (3) Students work 12 hours per week minimum for at least 15 weeks during fall and spring semesters at pre-approved media location for each internship. To adjust for shorter summer terms, students will put in at least 150 hours to qualify for full 3 semester-hours credit. 180 hours are recommended. See Professor Foote for more details.
WHAT DO I DO ON THE JOB? The role assignments vary from complete staff responsibilities in very rare cases to mere observation of staff activities in some other cases. The assignments can be designed for each placement and location situation by the organization or department which accepts the student intern. Students should remain flexible and be willing to compromise on assignment aspects of the agreement to meet the needs and requirements of the internship provider.
HOW IS THE GRADE DETERMINED? For all internships that Professor Foote is coordinating, students are expected to provide reports as needed on the status of their internship progress. This may be done in person or by E-mail to aefoote@una.edu. Most organizations or departments accepting an intern are forwarded an evaluation form by the coordinating professor to complete by the end of semester. With some internships selected by Professor Foote, he may prefer to phone the internship provider in place of receiving a written evaluation or to get additional information before assigning the final grade. Students are evaluated on performance, dependability, attitude, ability to learn and follow instructions, ability to complete work, initiative, and suitable appearance.
